This game isn't over yet, it's tied 0-0 in the top of the 10th right now, but Joe Girardi has done everything in his power to blow it for the Yanks and I just had to break my silence to vent about the moronic actions of our diminutive manager.
Bullets should do:
- First and second, no one out in a tie game. Melky Cabrera at the plate, Girardi takes off the bunt after the first pitch. Melky hits into a double play with Jeter on deck.
- Matsui on first, one out, Cano at the plate, full count. Girardi sends Matsui, who runs into the strike-em-out-throw-em-out double play
- Phil Hughes comes in to finish off the top of the eighth inning on 5 pitches. The Yanks fail to score in the bottom of the 8th. Instead of sending Hughes back out for the top of the ninth, effectively extending the best part of the bullpen deeper into the game, Girardi instead calls on Mo for the 9th. Now we get Aceves in the 10th.
Ridiculous, unimaginable decisions by a guy who is so clearly over his head it isn't even funny. If the Yanks win this game it will be despite the choke job by their manager. He is not fit to manage this team, it's like having a fat guy riding a thoroughbred in the Kentucky Derby.
What's funny is, when I saw your headline I thought it was for tonight's game! What kind of a ridiculous move was it to keep Phil Coke in the 8th inning to pitch to Boston's big bats after he got Ellsbury out??! I couldn't believe he even put him in the 8th inning at all. Over the previous 2 games, Hughes pitched a combined 2/3rds of an inning. Why couldn't he have come in to pitch the 8th inning of a one run game when we're on the verge of a huge sweep that would not only demoralize our arch-rivals but give us a 6 1/2 game lead on them, put them in a tie for the wild card and all but break their spirit for the final stretch of the season. Isn't that why he's in the bullpen? I saw that lead change coming from a mile away. Had the Sox ended up winning that game it could have been exactly the type of streak-ending glimmer of hope that team strives on. That the Yankees have as good a record and as big a lead in the division with this a-hole making the amateur calls is a testament to how strong this team is...he needs to go.
I couldn't agree more.
If the Yanks and Sox are evenly matched, talent-wise, the Yanks lose this series based solely on the horrible decision making by Girardi. The only reason they swept Boston was the ENORMOUS difference in talent between the two teams. Boston is just horrible, the Yanks' lineup is stacked, and the Yanks' lineup is also perfectly built for this stadium.
Brian, you were missed! You had to be proud of the Yankees performance vs. the Sawx. Welcome back, and love the comment about Girardi managing the Yankees being like a fat guy riding a thoroughbred in the Kentucky Derby. :-)
