Looks like these guys can also win pitchers' duels. Excellent.
Andy Pettitte went five serviceable innings before leaving with a stiff back, Alfredo Aceves picked up the slack, pitching three innings of one-hit relief and Derek Jeter singled twice and drove in a run as the
Yanks downed the Indians 3-1 in Cleveland. Jorge Posada pounded out two hits in his return from the disabled list and Mark Teixeira collected his 40th RBI of the season to help the Bombers ascend into sole possession of first place in the AL East for the first time since Oct. 1, 2006. My, my. Has it been that long?

I was out on the town (well, not really) and fell asleep watching Yankees Encore on YES when I got home. Hence, no roundup.
The biggest concern with Friday night's win was Pettitte's back. It looks like he's going to be
all right, but you never know.
"Hopefully it doesn't linger, because the longer it lingers, the less work he can do to be prepared for his next start," Joe Girardi said. "Do I think he'll make his next start? I do. But it's something we'll have to watch over the next four days."
We shall see.
Also, Mariano Rivera worked the final inning to record his 10th save of the season. It was his 58th career save for Pettitte, which is the most all-time for a duo. It's not the sexiest "record" (especially since saves weren't recognized as an official stat until 1969), but it does mark the consistency of both pitchers.
CC Sabathia (4-3, 3.42 ERA) will battle Fausto Carmona (2-4, 6.42 ERA) Saturday night. Sabathia has really found his chi after a rocky start to the season. The big lefty is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA in five May starts and has worked into at least the seventh inning in his past seven starts. CC picked up a no-decision against his former mates on April 16 at The Stadium, surrendering one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings in a 10-2 Indians victory. This will be the first time Sabathia takes the mound in Cleveland since the Tribe traded him to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008. Carmona has struggled mightily this season. He's 1-1 with a 6.58 ERA in five May starts and was knocked out of his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays after just 1 1/3 innings. Control has been the biggest problem for the right-hander -- he's issued 35 walks in 54 2/3 innings this season. Carmona defeated the Bombers on April 18 in the Bronx, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings in Cleveland's 22-4 romp.
It's been a while, but let's see if the Yanks remember how to play from ahead.
