The Yanks have avoided arbitration with Chien-Ming Wang by signing him to a $5M deal for 2009.
Peter Abraham has the release.
If you recall, the
Yanks took CMW to arbitration last season and wound up saving about $600,000. Wang wanted $4.6M, he wound up getting $4M flat.
I'm glad the team and Wang could come to terms this season. I realize baseball is a business and the Yankees need to operate as such, but arbitration is a messy business to get into. They should be able to work something out without tearing the player down.
So, if the season started today, here's your rotation, I believe:
- CC Sabathia
- AJ Burnett
- Chien-Ming Wang
- Joba Chamberlain
- Phil Hughes
They won't go into the season with that rotation, someone will probably slot in front of Joba, maybe Pettitte, maybe someone else.
