BIG CHANGESThis is the new home for Depressed Fan and Green Pinstripes' Yankee coverage. You can still find your Jets coverage at GP, the Sixers are still at DF and the Eagles have a new home at Don't Boo The Birds.

Jays 6, Yanks 0: Welcome to the Bronx?

Well, Phil Hughes holds a record after his first start in the major league. He’s officially tied for the least amount of run support in the history of the major leagues. Yep, the Yanks average 0.0 runs per Hughes start. Luckily, that’s going to change.

The thing that didn’t change tonight, was the Yankees losing ways. The slide has reached 6 with a 6–0 loss to Toronto. Not much positive to say about this one. There were some good signs from Phil Hughes, but when you say someone showed “good signs” it usually means bad results. The Yanks pen had to throw more than half of the game, again.

The Sox sit 5 and a half games ahead of the Yanks going into this weekend’s three-game set. The good news? Two of the three pitching match-ups favor the Yanks, and the third is pretty much a wash.

Player of the Game: Mike Myers? I guess I’ll give it to him, no one on the offensive side of the ball did anything, and Myers bounced back from the Carl Crawford grand slam to pitch two scoreless.

I wasn't at all impressed with Hughes. His fastball is straight as an arrow, and I never saw a great change. He has a nice curveball, but he needs to learn how to throw it for strikes.

This guy is not the next coming of Doc Gooden. He's just another over-hyped, over-rated Yankee farmhand.

I pray this losing streak continues. If they get swept by the Red Sux, Torre ass is really going to be on the hot seat. And with Mariano falling apart (is he even on the team anymore?), the Yankee's run is offically over.

Finally, I'll be able to afford tickets...

I have an idea, why don't you root for the Mets?

Ha! Look who is talking, you rooted for half a season for the Sixers to lose every game so that they would fire their coach, GM and get more lottery balls for the draft.

You can do all the rooting against the Yanks you want, I'm not the boss of you.

I don't think your criticism of Hughes is valid. He was dominant for three innings, shaky in the first, and tired in the fifth.

I saw a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things. The only thing you can take away from this game is that he could be great, and he could not be.

As far as your comments about his pitches:

1. Major league hitters don't swing and miss at 92MPH fastballs that are "straight as an arrow"

2. His curve is sick. Absolutely sick. And he threw it for strikes.

3. His change, admittedly his third-best pitch, is 10 MPH off his fastball, and it tails away from the left handed hitter. Go back and look at what he did to Overbay in the first, and Rios in the third with his change. That pitch will be the key to his career. If he isn't afraid to use it, he'll neutralize lefties with it and slow down the bats of righties, making his fastball look faster.

There is reason to be excited by this kid. He's got a plus fastball, a dominant curve, and a change that's right in the middle velocity-wise.

Give him a couple more starts, let him get used to facing major league hitters, if he's still having outings like last night, then I'll agree he should be sent down. I don't think it's going to happen though. I think he's here to stay.
