A-Rod continues to A-nnoy
Alex Rodriguez's first appearance at camp today seemed more like an appearance on the Dr. Phil show as he spoke about his relationship with Derek Jeter and about being the highest paid player in the game.
Yep, business as usual for the 2007 Yankees, but I have a question for A-Rod:
How does a guy who has been in the big leagues over ten years and has been a superstar for almost all of them and has been in New York for the past three years NOT know how to deal with the media?
Here's A-Rod's take on his relationship with Jeter:
"The reality is there's been a change in the relationship over 14 years and, hopefully, we can just put it behind us. You go from sleeping over at somebody's house five days a week, and now you don't sleep over. It's just not that big of a deal."
Then why bring it up? How will comments like this help you with the fans and more importantly with your teammates? Also, don't you think sleepovers are a bit odd once guys reach their thirties? You're a married man with a child -- stay home!
Now, Jeter does have a bit of Joe DiMaggio in him -- that "once you cross me, you're dead to me" attitude that fans, media and probably teammates have picked up on (just ask Chad Curtis) but he has never spoken about a problem in the relationship. I'm sure he just loved A-Rod's comments today.
Does A-Rod believe that this sort of "honesty" will bring some fans over to his side? If that's his plan he's dead wrong. A-Rod will probably eclipse Jeter in every statistical category when he finally hangs them up, but he'll never supplant him as "The Man" in New York, it's just not going to happen. If he really wanted to "be honest" he could have apologized for his comments in that stupid Esquire article (which is from six years ago) and be done with it.
Here's A-Rod's take on making the most dough:
"Whatever you say is important. People listen to you. That's pretty cool. Nobody used to listen to me before."
Yes, A-Rod, people are listening. So please stop talking.
This guy is just complete moron. He's like the Tom Cruise of baseball, just spewing nonsense whenever a microphone is put in front of him.
If I didn't have reason enough to dislike him, now every Sox fan out there has even more material to say A-Rod and Jeter are gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I pray he opts out of his contract after this year, or lets the Yanks trade him. They should call the Angels and see if the can get Lackey, Ervin Santana and/or F-Rod for him.
Just think, this is just his first day! There's still a WHOLE year's worth of nonsense to come!

Unfortunately, A-Rod is making it too easy.
All A-Rod did was answer the questions asked. If he gave a PR answer you would be all over him for not speaking his mind. And for that matter who cares with any of these overpaid crybabies have to say. By speaking his mind, he will spend less time thinking of the right thing to say and more time playing ball.

But, if he has an MVP-type season because of it then it's all worthwhile.
Vin is right. All Arod did was answer a question. If you heard the entire 11 minutes of questioning, you would know that this, like everything else that surrounds Arod, is driven by the media. Arod didn't show up at camp, ask the scribes to circle around, and start telling them about his relationship with Jeter. The question was asked after about five minutes of the interview. All Arod did was tell the truth and if that's what's going to get him going this year than I'm all for it. Honesty is the best policy. That's what I say.

A-Rod, more like a tool. Anyway who cares about A-Rod and Jeter's 'relationship.' Sounds a bit gay. Mike give us some real headlines like Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears.

You're right it does sound gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I hope it all goes away soon. And I don't know what the big deal is about Britney Spears shaving her head -- I do it all the time. It's no big deal . . .

You're completely out of your mind. Jeter was hounded just as much a Arod, the only difference is that Jeter isn't an insecure baby. He said, "I'm not going to talk about off the field relationships." Which is exactly how you should answer those questions. Arod sounds like a jilted lover. I'm so sick of his act.
You know he spent a couple of weeks coming up with that, "If you guys promise not to ask me about Derek anymore, I'll promise to stop lying to you." What a prick.
And even if he has another MVP season it won't make one bit of difference if he doesn't get it done in the playoffs. And I don't mean just the first round of the playoffs, I mean through the World Series. It's just like him to have a good division series, gloat about it and then spit out an 0-fer the rest of the way.
I want him out of NY. The fact that Jeter has to respond to these questions again and again proves what a distraction he's become.
I don't think that Jeter and Arod's relationship should exist in the world OR the United States.

I feel bad that Jeter and A-Rod cannot be truthful about their relationship. Hopefully one day they will co-write a book about it.
